Judo: A Productive Outlet for Energetic Kids
Parents of young kids know that their energy seems boundless. It can be a challenge to keep up! In fact, many parents end the day exhausted from running around after their children.
The exhaustion is real – and it can take over even when your kids are old enough to be in school most of the day. After sitting still in a classroom for hours, they get home and unleash that pent-up energy – and you end up feeling overwhelmed by it.
I get it. I’m an experienced martial arts instructor, and I’m still sometimes blown away by the sheer intensity of kids’ energy. It can be a lot to take and the only way to deal with it is to give a productive outlet for it.
Here’s the thing I tell parents all the time:
Kids have that energy for a reason. As a parent, the last thing you want to do is encourage your kids to sit around all day. In fact, you might struggle at times to get them to put down the video games and go outside. Luckily, studying the martial arts is a great way for kids to put their intense energy to use as it teaches them that energy is movement. We stress to our students that energy can help them achieve their goals. Harnessing energy is an important life skill.
When you bring your child to Pedro’s Judo Center, they’ll learn to work hard. They’ll push their bodies in a controlled way, learning to use their energy constructively. By the time they leave judo, they’ll have burned off some of that energy allowing for better focus on homework, chores, and family activities.
Judo is not going to eliminate all of this pent up energy. They’re still kids. There are going to be times that their energy will overflow. And when it does, judo and exercise can serve as that outlet
